Tangerine dream

When I was young, my Grandmother would always make us mandarin oranges in jelly for dessert. This has no relevance whatsoever to this artwork, but the sweet taste and soft texture began melting in mouth and penetrating my subconscious right through to my fingertips, so there we have it.

Is this girl dreaming in tangerine? For some reason I feel she is in the South of France in a garden by a wall of honeyed stone covered in waves of soft greenery and vine. She sits at an ancient iron table and nurses a glass of wine while soaking up the last of the sunshine as it readies itself to hide away for another day. The gentle chords from a distant guitar remind her of a lost love...

She is a digital amalgamation of two of my paintings - following my girl theme for Summer of Colour where I have tried to do something a little different with every outing. It hasn't been easy and I got rather cross and cranky this week. Then, when all seemed set for disaster, what happens? I end up with two!

I posted this one yesterday for Sunday Sketches, but the colour orange was clearly still on my mind. I rather like her hair! You can read the story about her here.

  2. I love this art work - it is strange how when one is creating all the senses are invoked, how memories are recalled, sensations felt, isn't art making just the most amazing thing to do!

  4. Amazing artwork Lisa! Love how it evokes memories..which must add to the end result.
I still haven't tried your fab tea splattering technique...I had a little giggle at your previous post at your boyfriend's 14-year-old daughter who thought you were more insane than usual LOL !! The trouble is if I started flinging tea bags (In the name of art - of course!!) my kids most probably wouldn't bat an eyelid!! LOL

  6. She looks very far away and indeed it could be in the south of France. Your sunday sketches girl is just so pretty.

  15. O.K. Lisa, we did NOT choose the same blog title this week. I can't believe it - ha! Tho I guess tangerine dream is not that original. I love your digital melding of your art along with your narrative. Your writing is always so beautiful along with your art. I forgot to mention the teabag flinging in your last post. I could actually picture the teabags landing on your canvas with a squishy splat. It comes in at a close second to paint flinging!

  16. Beautiful gals! I like that you toyed with digitally manipulating your art for something different and she has a very moody feeling. I particularly like your second one because it's so bright, the layers are even there behind her face, AND she has short hair. How come paintings/drawings of women always have LONG flowing locks? I've always had short hair and miss seeing depictions of women with short, sassy do's. :)

Now that's off my chest, I have enjoyed all your fab gals and have followed you so that I can keep up with your journey.

  21. These are both beautiful; funny lately I feel that way when I have orange marmalade on my English muffin. My grandmother whispers in my ear..."told you, you would like it someday" always makes me smile~ Off to read your story!
